Claw-biting Cutest Pet Contest Winners Unveiled with Top Honors Going to Pet Owners from Offices of Reps. Miller and Kelly, Sen. Rubio

Washington, D.C. – (September 29, 2015) The love of animals trumped politics tonight as the Animal Health Institute (AHI) brought together members of Congress and Hill staffers from both sides of the aisle for Pet Night on Capitol Hill. Tuesday night’s event marked the 19th year pet lovers have gathered for the popular event, which included the unveiling of the Cutest Pets on Capitol Hill. Top honors in this year’s contest went to “Killer” the dog, from U.S. Rep. Jeff Miller’s Office; “Mila” the cat, from U.S. Rep. Mike Kelly’s office; and “Mack” the horse, from U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio’s office.

[Winners: Killer from Rep. Miller’s Office, Mila from Rep. Kelly’s Office, and Mack from Sen. Rubio’s Office.]

“AHI’s Pet Night is a favorite on Capitol Hill. This gathering celebrates the bond between people and their pets and also shows us that regardless of politics, we can come together over a shared love of our animal friends,” said Alex Mathews, president and CEO of AHI. “Our fun event also serves as a chance to remind pet owners how the availability of medicine to keep animals healthy plays an important role in promoting the human-animal bond. Increased awareness and understanding about the relationship between human and animal health ultimately helps prevent disease transmission from pets and food animals and helps protect public health.”

During the event, U.S. Rep. Kurt Schrader unveiled this year’s winners, who were selected via a two-part voting system – demonstrating that even in election season not everyone on Capitol Hill fights like cats and dogs.

First, a panel of Washington, D.C. celebrity judges narrowed a competitive field of hundreds of furry, feathered and scaly entries – nominated by members and staffers – down to the finalists for cutest dog, cutest cat and cutest exotic animal. The judges included: Francesca Chambers of the Daily Mail Online; Ashley Gallagher, DVM, of Friendship Hospital; Erwin Gomez of Karma Beauty Lounge; and Michael Schaffer, editor of Washingtonian. After the naming of finalists, the public voted online to select the winners; nearly 12,000 total votes were cast.

In addition to the Cutest Pets on Capitol Hill competition, Pet Night offered attendees the opportunity to meet this year’s celebrity pets – Jagger, canine star of the movie “Max,” and Frosty, who plays Larry the white cat in the hit television program “Modern Family.”

Sesame noodle bowl with chopsticks.

Sometimes you just need to really look forward to your lunch, and sometimes = always.

Will you look forward to:

  • silky smooth, lusciously creamy sesame sauce that you can just shake up in a jar real quick
  • fork-twirly noodles with just the right amount of stick to hang onto that sauce
  • salted edamame
  • crispy cucumber bits
  • juicy browned chicken or tofu or whatever protein you love – like, I don’t know, I’m having visions of a soft boiled egg?

YOU TELL ME.

Sesame noodle bowl in meal prep containers.

This recipe is incredibly easy, which, as you know, is kind of the only way I do meal prep. E-A-S-Y.

The sauce can shake up in a jar and the noodles can cook in 2 minutes (serious).

And just like that, you have sesame noodles.

And said sesame noodles are, in fact, the base of the sesame noodle bowls, so basically you’re done. Now it’s just up to you how extra you want to get with your bowl-ing.

Ingredients for sesame noodle bowls.

I went medium effort on my sesame noodle bowls with cucumbers, edamame, sesame-ish chicken, and a sprinkling of sesame seeds, and it was part noodles, part salad, part health bomb, and I loved it.

You can debate me on hot vs. cold all day – I will let you win either way because both are amazing.

Guys, this is a desk lunch to keep you counting the hours till lunch BUT NOT LIKE I DO THAT?! Happy prepped lunches to you!

15 Minute Meal Prep: Sesame Noodle Bowls

  • Author: Lindsay
  • Prep Time: 10 minutes
  • Cook Time: 5 minutes
  • Total Time: 15 minutes
  • Yield: 4 bowls

Description

Meal Prep Sesame Noodle Bowls! Fork-twirly noodles, an easy creamy sesame sauce, perfect browned chicken, and all the veg. YUM.

Ingredients

Sesame Sauce:

  • 1/4 cup sesame paste (or tahini)
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 clove garlic, grated
  • Sriracha and sugar to taste

Bowls:

  • 6-8 ounces stir fry noodles, Chinese egg noodles, or linguine in a pinch
  • 2 cups edamame, cooked
  • 2 cucumbers, diced
  • 1 lb. chicken breast, cooked and diced (optional: see notes)
  • Sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Sauce: Whisk all sauce ingredients together until smooth (or you can run it through the food processor, or shake it up in a jar).
  2. Noodles: Cook noodles a few minutes LESS than package instructions. If your noodles seem very sticky, rinse them in cold water. Toss noodles with about half of the sesame sauce.
  3. Bowls: Divide noodles, edamame, cucumber, and chicken into containers. Drizzle with a little extra sauce and sprinkle with sesame seeds. Voila! Store in the fridge for 3-4 days. Eat hot or cold. Take a shot for the ‘gram cause this is your moment.

Notes

If you love sauce: Make a 1.5x batch. Especially if you are going to use some on the chicken. Or want some leftover in your fridge or freezer.

Ideal method for cooking the chicken: Cut a pound of chicken breasts into bite-sized pieces, toss with olive oil, salt, pepper, and garlic powder, and bake at 425 degrees for 15 minutes. Done. If you like a little browning on your chicken (like what’s pictured here), once it’s baked, just pop it in a skillet with some extra sesame sauce and let it get nice and roasty-browned on the outside!

Noodles: The noodles I used said “Oriental Style Noodles – Product of Japan” on the package, but a lot of the videos I watched for sesame noodles recommended Chinese egg noodles. Whatever noodles you use, I’d recommend cooking for slightly less than what is directed on the package.

Soy sauce: A lot of recipes I saw called for dark soy sauce! I liked using dark soy sauce and probably would do that again, but I also found that the sauce still tasted really good with regular or low sodium soy sauce. In my opinion, either one can work.

Hot / cold: If you do want to eat these sesame noodles hot, I would recommend storing the cucumber separately and adding it after you heat it up.

Other vegetables / proteins: Cucumbers are traditional with sesame noodles, but I think just about any vegetables (and/or protein) would be great. Carrots. Bell peppers. Broccoli. Green onions. Shrimp. Salmon. Tofu. Tempeh. Peanuts.

Your javelin is the key to both combat and movement in Anthem. Its mobility and firepower give you the ability to soar through the air, dive into the murky depths, and take on pretty much anything this world can throw at you. The minute you climb into a javelin you feel unstoppable.

So, how soon can you get your hands on a javelin of your very own? You’ll unlock your first at level 2, your second at level 8, your third at level 16, and your fourth at level 26. There are four to choose from, each with its own unique abilities, strengths, and weaknesses.

Ranger: If you’re looking for the perfect javelin for almost any playstyle, you’ll want to start with the Ranger. It’s versatile, well-balanced, and great for both close and long-range combat.

Interceptor: Like to get into (and out of) a fight before the enemy even knows what hit them? The Interceptor is the right javelin for you. It’s powerful, agile, and a master of close combat.

Colossus: If “tank” is your playstyle of choice, this mammoth war machine is calling your name. The Colossus is big, heavily armored, and the only javelin capable of wielding Heavy Weapons.

Storm: The raw power of a Storm is something to behold. This elegant long-range specialist is a master of the elements with incredible fire, ice, and lightning attacks.

You can both customize and personalize your fleet of javelins to suit your needs and style. We’ll cover the details on that in the next two sections.

Loadout

Now that you’ve got your javelin, it’s time to add gear and weapons, so head to the Forge, your in-game customization and personalization hub. You can access the Forge via either Fort Tarsis or the Launch Bay; once at one of those locations, select the “Loadout” tab.

Let’s start with gear, which can modify aspects of your javelin, like optimizing attack combos, lowering cool-down times, increasing a weapon’s effectiveness, and more.

Gear comes in six rarity levels: Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic, Masterwork, and Legendary. At higher rarity levels your gear will also include inscriptions, randomly rolled stat boosts, and bonuses. And Masterwork and Legendary items may also have added ability bonuses.

In terms of weapons, you’ll start with only one slot, but as you level up you’ll unlock a second. As soon as it’s unlocked try to select complementary weapons and remember to switch between them in the field by holding the reload button (Square on your controller). This can come in very handy when situations on the ground change, like when an immediate need to snipe a long-distance enemy arises.

Appearance

You can also personalize your javelin’s look in the Forge by selecting the “Appearance” tab. Note that all the options you’ll find here will only affect how your javelin looks; they’re entirely cosmetic. You can choose from a huge selection, including paint colors, armor wear state, unique patterns you can apply called vinyls, and animations. With so many options available, you may be surprised at how much time you’ll spend in the Forge getting the exact look you want.

Traversal

You’re armed and your javelin looks amazing, now it’s time to head out into the world for some serious adventure. Whether you’re taking on a dangerous Stronghold (high-level dungeons you’ll need a squad of Freelancers to complete) or just exploring in Freeplay (roaming freely around to collect crafting materials or look for a random fight) you’ll need to understand how to get around.

Your javelin gives you the ability to travel through the vertical spaces of your world, and there is nothing quite like flying high above the landscape just taking it all in. How do you get airborne? On your controller click the left stick to soar into the air and control your movement. Want to hover above an area? Click the right stick while airborne.

While flying is one of the most incredible experiences in the game, you won’t be able to do it forever. Your javelin will overheat eventually and re-introduce you to the concept of gravity rather abruptly. You can deal with this by pressing the X button to come in for a landing, or by looking for a nearby body of water. Taking a quick dip in a lake or waterfall will give you more time in the air.

Start Your Adventure

There’s lots more to discover in Anthem — mysteries to uncover, environments to explore, dangers to face — so choose your javelin, suit up, and become the hero this world so desperately needs. Unleash your power on PS4 today.

Thanks !

Obeah, also known as Obi, Obeya or Obia is a group of spiritual and healing practices used by the West African people of the West Indies, particularly those of Jamaica. It was developed by the enslaved peoples brought to the West Indies when slavery was in its prime and the word, Obeah, has been argued by some to be a white word used to describe the practices. It is similar to Palo, Vodou, Santeria and Hoodoo as it has elements of ancestor communication and healing rituals, however it does not have gods or deities that it worships and the practice of Obeah tends to be very individual rather than communal. Because of the wide variety of tribal practices and individual beliefs, there is no uniform concept of what constitutes Obeah among practitioners. The word first appeared in early 18th century papers in connection to the Maroons.

History of Obeah and Magic

Obeah’s history includes periods of time where the use of the magic was outlawed and this has also led to the lack of liturgy or uniformity in the religion. While now people may apprentice to someone who has shown skill in Obeah, they will have their own reputation to build and rely upon once their skills have been worked on. Their primary function in their society is that of a healer, most often providing physical healing through massage or baths, and spiritual healing through pouches and bottles worn around the body to ward off evil and disease. The ability to make fetishes is a critical skill as they have to be able to discern what to include in the fetish that will protect the person.

Obeah as a Religion

Like many of the Christianized African religions, Obeah was a necessary tool in helping keep the enslaved African peoples connected to the religion and beliefs of their people and tribes back home. Obeah, just like Palo, Vodou, Santeria and Hoodoo, gave them a way to keep connected to their ancestors while affecting some level of assimilation with their white, European, Christian slave owners. This was particularly important when Obeah was outlawed following the Tacky Rebellion – having made these necessary emotional and spiritual connections, these people were able to maintain a connection to their own religion through the religion of their oppressors.

Associated Religions

Myal is another religion closely associated with Obeah, though it has more of a community influence than Obeah. In Myal, the priests are leaders amongst their community with the ability to lead and command influence among decision makers. Furthermore, the ritual possession practiced in Myal is much more uniform and practiced similarly between people rather than the more individual chants, dance and trances practiced by those who use Obeah. Furthermore, while Obeah focuses its attention on warding away spirits, Myal focuses on recovering lost souls. In fact, many consider Myal to be ‘white’ magic and Obeah to be ‘black’ magic, but this is a complete misunderstanding of Obeah – both have their focus on healing, it was just easier to absorb Myal into the Euro-Christian way of life than it was to enfold Obeah as Obeah was a focus of many uprisings.
